A proud resident of New York City for nearly 15 years, Michael Murphy knows every challenge of buying, renting, and selling in the city. A property owner himself, who has lived everywhere from Greenwich Village to Brooklyn Heights, Murphy brings a deep familiarity with the Manhattan and Brooklyn real estate markets to his work with Compass.
Originally from South Carolina, Murphy studied art history as an undergraduate at USC, later earning his master's from Virginia Commonwealth University. His passion for architectural design makes him uniquely qualified to help people find the home perfectly suited to their needs, or stage a living space in a way that fully shows off its potential.
Prior to his career in real estate, Murphy spent 11 years as the director of sales for a leading electronics manufacturer, overseeing all aspects of the sales, design, and production process, and managing relationships with national accounts including Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Target. As a result, he developed a hands-on approach to negotiating, communicating, and building trust with clients, as well as a strong ability to multi-task that he carries into his work today. He is known for always putting his clients’ interests first, and enthusiastically embraces every part of the real estate transaction process—from the initial search to negotiating an offer.
In recent years, he has received several top industry honors, including the Rising Star Award (2015) with his previous firm, as well as team honors that include Top Team for Brooklyn (2016) and recognition as one of New York’s Best Real Estate Teams (Real Trends, 2017).
In his free time, he enjoys volunteering for the Leadership Committee for the Eagles—which supports the Brooklyn Public Library system—and Infinite Family, a nonprofit that offers virtual mentorship opportunities to South African teenagers.
